Change in CLoD rules
The rule that a player entered the Champions League of Darts lost his right for a wildcard for the Zuiderduin Masters has been removed from the CLOD regulations.

So the promoters of the Zuiderduin Masters have a better choice to point out a player to receive a wilcard for the world top event.

Most of the best Dutch players enter this unique event to obtain a place among the world top in the Zuiderduin Masters, but if they did not succeed, it was the end of that project.

Even if they had a very good season, and ended high on national and international rankings there was no change.

We saw a better Deta in the second set but Deta could not finsh in the 5th leg of the second set and lost that set 3-2 and so the first Tops of Holland title was for Dutch Crown, Francis Hoenselaar.

A tough final for Brian Woods against fellow countryman Steve West. Woods took the first set 3-1 but the next two went to Steve West (2-3 and 2-3). But in set 4 and 5 Steve lost control. Brian however did not miss a thing and won both te set 3-0 to claim the first Tops of Holland title.

Dutch men make history at World Cup XVII
For the first time in the history of the World Cup the Dutch men won the world title in the team event. Joey ten Berge, Daniel Brouwer, Frans Harmsen  and Willy van de Wiel go in the books as the first Dutch team winning this title.

Unexpected because team England, with Martin Adams, Scott Waites, Darryl Fitton and Tony O'Shea was tipped to become World Champion.

The Dutch team won the title by a 9-5 victory over Canada. Canada came back from 8-2 down to 8-5 before Dutchman Willy van de Wiel scored the 9th and final leg.

This result plus the runner up place of Joey ten Berge in the singles ( he lost from Tony O'Shea who became World Cup Champion singles) was good for the overall title for the Dutch men.

Stacy Bromberg became World Cup champion ladies singles and Englands Karen Lawman and Lisa Ashton won the women pairs title and the overall championship. Karin Krappen and Francis Hoenselaar, the Dutch women team ended on the 10th place.

Finland ruled  in the Youth event. Tuomas Tikka lost the Youth single final of reigning Winmau World Champion Jamie Lewis from Wales, but together with Aliisa Koskivirta he became World Champion mixed pairs Youth.

Aliisa won the girls title by a victory over Englands Zoe Jones who had a very unlucky day with nineteen darts on the floor. All the results together were  good for the overall title for the Youth of Finland.

Europe Cup overall title for boys Sweden and girls England
You may say that the boys from Sweden and girls from England ruled on the Europe Cup 2009 for Youth players. As well as the Swedish boys as the English girls played in all the finals.

Sweden only lost the final of the team event from the Netherland (Gilbert vd Meijden, Jeffrey Stigter, Jeffrey Sparidaans and Daniel van Mourik. The first two and the last two formed the dutch pairs for the pairs event in which the both lost in the semi finals. Due to that and poor results in the singles the boys from the Netherlands where 4 points short for the overall title.

This overall title was for the Swedish boys; Oskar Lukasiak, Edwin Torbjörnsson, Birk Kamp en Charlie Guldvinge. The pairs title was won by Oskar Lukasia and Edwin Torbjörnsson from Sweden. The boys from Finland, Tuomas Tikka and Juuso Raittila kad a whitewash, the lost 4-0.

Master of the event, Oskar Lukasiak als was crowned most valuable player of the event after winning the boys single finale from Welshman Jamie Lewis 3-0 in sets.

In the girls event Zoey Jones and Laura Hitchens where the best. Laura lost the semi final from Zoey Jones and together with Zoey the won the girls pairs title. Kimberley Lewis and Gemma Bowen from Wales could not stop the England train and lost 4-0.

In the girls final the new Dutch Open Youth Champion, Aliisa Koskivirta could not answer the strong play of Zoey Jones and lost 3-0. Due to the results also the overall title was for the girls from England.

Dutch girls, Thea Kaaijk and Lynn Poolen ended fifth in the overall ranking. As loosing semi finalist in the girls singles, Lynn Poolen had the best result in this event.

All records broken for 3rd MariFlex Open

Last weekend ( 21st and 22nd of March) the third edition of the MariFlex Open was played in Sint Maartensdijk. Once started as a fun weekend with football and darts now gets attention from a large group of dartsplayers and football players and even the local media.

The first edition sponsored bij MariFlex, also the sponsor of Tony O'Shea, had about 30 players, and among them Tony O'Shea . Last Year more dasn 90 players entered and this weekend more then 170 players came to the MariFlex Open.

The England team with some friends of Tony from Stockport and Dutch yout players Santino Broer and Benito van de Pas won the very fanatic played football match.

Because the organisation had announced a format starting with groups and later on a winners and best of the rest event, it took to long to finish the event, somthing that will not happen the next time.

Jan Karel won the best of the rest tournament with a 4-0 victory on Mark Vink. The Ladies trophy was for Rilana Erades, she won 2-4. Her opponent, Sammy Buermans started well but after 4 legs (score 2-2) Rilana controlled the match and won 2 legs in a row for the victory.

Lakeside play off at Bridlington
In cold and windy Bridlington on the 4th of December the Lakeside play off matches started. A great number of Dutch player came to England, but none succeeded to get a ticket. Only Rilana Erades won the play off for the stand bye ticket and have to wait untill Sunday to see if the Winmau World Masters is an allready placed player.

Dutchman Henny van der Ster was very close but he lost the sheet finale to Ross Smith. The qualifiers are:  Lisa Ashton and Anne Kirk for the ladies and Ross Smith, Daryl Gurney (Nrth Ireland) Dave Chisnall, Daniel Larson from Sweden and the first ever Polish player Krzystov Ratajski.

Willy van der Wiel instead of Remco van Eijden
Willy van der Wiel will be the new player in group E of the Zuiderduin Masters 2008. Willy replaces Dutchman Remco van der Eijden who accepted the SBS6 wildcard for the PDC Ladbrokes.com last Sunday at the PDC German Darts Championships.

Remco has to join now the PDPA, the players union of the PDC and therefore is not allowed to play the Zuiderduin Masters anymore.

Willy van der Wiel was suprised to hear he is invited now, and was very pleased to accept the invitation. Willy who plays Brian Woods on Friday the 12th sees the Zuiderduin Masters as a good preparation for Lakeside World Pro 2009.

First Wildcard Zuiderduin goes to Belgium International, Geert de Vos
A big surprise for Belgium International player Geert de Vos at the start of the Primus Masters in Houthalen. Geert who becomes 27 tomorrow received a wildcard for the Zuiderduin Masters in December at hotel Zuiderduin, Egmond aan Zee, the Netherlands.

Geert who played well since 2007, the year he became Spring Cup Champion and was losing semi finalist at the World Cup was most surprised to hear he is now one of the 22 known players of this event. Totally 24 players will start on Friday the 12th of December. So two wildcards still left and one for a lady because this Year for the first time there will be a ladies event as well.

Unfortunately Shaun Greatbatch, one of the invited player had to say thank you to his invitation because he will receive medical treatment in that period. Stuart Kellet, the number 21 of the Zuiderduin Masters ranking is now invited to come to Egmond aan Zee.

The Grand Prix of the Low Lands
At the first Champions League of Darts event, held on September 13 at Hotel Zuiderduin an announcement was made about the possibility of 5 new ranking events in Holland and Belgium. The organisations of 4 allready well known events and one new Belgium event joint together in the Grand Prix of the Low Lands.

The Belgium events Open Antwerp and Primus Masters and the Dutch events Open Schiedam and Thialf Open, are well known events, Flanders Open in Belgium is the new event, and together they have held meetings about the new way for the future.

These 5 organisations want to offer the players as well as WDF as BDO ranking points. First the presentation was done for the Dutch and Belgium Darts Bond and at the Europe Cup in Denmark the Dutch Darts Bond (NDB) had a meeting with the World Darts Federation concerning this plan. The WDF accepted and later spoke to the board of the British Darts Organisation about the Grand Prix of the Low Lands and asked the BDO to participate as well. And it seems, also the BDO thinks positive of the new concept in Holland.

Beside the WDF and possible BDO ranking points there is a set up for the Grand Prix of the Low Lands ranking. With this ranking the organisations hopes to get extra wildcards for top events. So with ranking points good prize money and well known organisations the Grand Prix of the Low Lands hopes to offer good opportunities for the WDF dartsplayers.

Ladies Only tournament won by Rilana Erades
Sunday the 7th of September the LDA, Ladies Darts Organisation organised the first edition of the Ladies Only Darts Tournament. Pub Rendez Vous Hilversum was the host for the event. Bill and Karin, the owners of the Pub offered all the players, officials and spectators a delicious free dinner buffet, and members of dartteam Rendez Vous did control the event, and marked all the  ladies matches.

Beside the best ladies from Holland, as Francis Hoenselaar, Rilana Erades, Floortje van Zanten en Karin ten Kate, Welsh, Jan Robbins, reigning WDF World Champion and Irina Armstrong from Russia played the first Ladies Only Tournament.

The first round was a group event, later the best 16 of this group event played knock out up to the final. Jan Robbins and Rilana Erades played the final, and Rilana was the best in a best of 9 legs match she won 5-2. Karin ten Kate and Francis Hoenselaar were the losing semi finalists.

Euro Cup Youth 2009 in Holland
The Europe Cup Youth 2009 will be organised by the NDB from the Netherlands. This decision is made at the EDC meeting last Saturday at the end of the Europe Cup in Denmark

More news over when and where will be published soon.

Other good news for the lady darts players. Starting 2010 the Six Nations Cup will be an event as well for men as for women. Till now only 5 men teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Rep Ireland, Nrth Ireland and the Netherlands were invited for this event.

Later, in 2010 also teams of 4 ladies  of these countries will compete in their own Six Nations Cup at the same location and dates the man will play.

Double trouble for Dutch team
The Dutch national team did not succeed in winning one title at the Europe Cup 2008 in Denmark. Dutch ladies pairs Carla Molema and Sharon Prins lost their quarter final against the ladies from Scotland, and in the single event Sharon lost her first match.

Carla Molema lost in the quarter finals. She played Louise Hepburn from Scotland. Louise also won the final of the ladies singles. Lisa Ashton, from England, the other finalist and tipped for the title, was not ias good as she showed during the tournament and lost 4-0.

In the ladies pairs final Grethel Glasö and Carina Ekberg from Sweden against the Welsh ladies Jan Robbins and Julie Gore. Sweden became the new and unexpected Europe Cup champion defeating Wales 4-1.

Overall Champion of the ladies event is Scotland with a first and joined third place in the singles and third place in the ladies pairs. Sweden became second with 4 points less as the winners. Third place for Wales and England four. The Dutch ladies ended 7th.

Welshman Mark Webster won his second Europe Cup single title in a row defeating Norhtern Ireland player Daryl Gurney. Daryl played a very good tournament. In the semi final against Dutch player Fabian Roosebrand he was superb and beat the Lakeside 2008 player 4-0. But in the final Mark Webster showed why he was the reining Lakeside World Pro Champion. He won 4-0 and took his second Europe Cup title in a row.

The new Europe Cup 2008 pairs title went to the English players Martin Adams and John Walton. Not an easy track to reach the finals. First in the quarter finals they had to beat Scotland ( Ross Montgommery and Mike Veitch). This match ended 4-0 for England. In the semi finals Martin and John had to play Sweden (Markus Korhonen and Magnus Caris) More resistance from the Sweden players but not enough and Sweden lost 2-4.

Finlands Jarkko Komula an Mark Kantele from Finland reach the pairs final and started well by taking the lead in  the match. But Martin and John stroke back and 3 legs later England was one leg away from victory (1-3). Only it took one leg more Finland won the fifth leg but in leg six England captain Martin Adams finished the match and was the pairs title for England.

The last final of the event, the team match between Denmark and the Netherlands did not have a very happy ending for the Dutch. As well the Dutch team and the Danish could collect two titles if they win the team event. One for the event and one as overall winner of Europe Cup 2008.

After 5 legs the Netherlands lead 4-1 but six legs later Denmark was 5-6 up. Frede Johansen from Denmark, made a two points difference in leg 14 (6-8) and Denmark was one leg from victory. For Holland Fabian Roosenbrand and Daniel Brouwer equalised the score and the tema had to play the captains game.

For Holland Fabian entered the stage, Frede Johansen was the Danish player. After 15 darts Fabian left himself a 20 finish while Frede with a 100 score left himself 120. Fabian did not succeed in hitting the double. He missed 7 darts for the match and so Denmark became the new Europe Cup winner for teams and overall.

The second place was for England, Scotland ended third anf Finland with 73 points took the fouth place. Holland ended on place 6.
